The BBBoC released their British notice yesterday to call for and confirm a number of interesting domestic match-ups. At the top of the tree, Dave Allen (9-0-1m 6 KOs) against Sam Sexton (22-3, 8 stoppages) for the vacant British heavyweight title has had its bids postponed.
Allen meets Dillian Whyte for the vacant WBC International title in Leeds on the 30th of this month so the mooted contest, which is also a British title eliminator, is on hold for the time being.
Down at cruiserweight, British Champion Ovill McKenzie’s (25-12-1, 13 KOs) defence against Craig Kennedy (15-0, 8 early) was won by Frank Warren, with the date and venue ‘as yet to be advised’.
Pat Magee earned the right to stage Tommy McCarthy (9-0, 5 KOs) versus Matty Askin (20-3-1, 13 KOs) for the light-heavyweight title, once again both the date and venue are TBC.
Eddie Hearn placed a request to recognise Tomi Tatham’s (11-1, 5 early) fight against Liam Conroy (10-3-1, 3 stoppages) as an eliminator for Hosea Burton’s 175lbs crown. The contest will take on July 24 at the Manchester Arena, with Burton set to meet Frank Buglioni on the same card.
Luke Blackledge (21-2-2, 7 KOs) has been calling for a showdown with Paul Smith, but he could end up with Callum instead after the Board ordered the 20-0 (15) Liverpudlian to defend his title against Blackledge, the current Commonwealth holder. Bids are due in by August 10 and the fight has to take place by the end of November.
Similarly, the same time line applies for Chris Eubank Junior’s (23-1, 18 KOs) mandated defence against Tommy Langford (16-0, 5 early). Sticking with the middleweight division, Dennis Hobson put in a request to bill Sam Sheedy (16-1, 4 KOs) and Andrew Robinson (18-1, 6 KOs) as an eliminator. His request was granted, the bout will take place on July 30 in Sheffield.
Welterweight holder Bradley Skeete (23-1, 10 KOs) is eying bigger titles, however in the meantime his defence against Colne’s Shayne Singleton (23-1, 8 KOs) was put out to purse bids. They are due in by August 10 with the fight set to take place between now and November. The winner will face with Dale Evans (10-3-2, 3 early) or Mike Towell (11-0-1, 8 KOs), who fight a final eliminator on a Iain Wilson show, venue and date TBC.
As previously reported, Tyrone Nurse (33-2-1, 7 KOs) is making a voluntary defence of his light-welterweight belt against Tommy Coyle (22-3, 10 KOs) on July 30; the Board have ordered the winner to box Jack Catterall ‘when called upon to do so’.
Liam Walsh’s decision to vacate the Super featherweight title prompted Hearn to ask the Board to approve Martin Joseph Ward (14-0-2, 7 KOs) versus Andy Townend (16-3, 11 KOs) for the vacant title. His wish was granted and the fight will take place in September in London, presumably on the undercard of Gennady Golovkin’s middleweight title defence against IBF welterweight holder Kell Brook.
George Jupp (13-3, 4 KOs) and Anthony Cacace (13-0, 6 early) will fight for the right to fight the winner of that one as bids have been called for a final eliminator between the two. Mark Bunlop will pitch Ronnie Clark (15-3-2, 9 KOs) and Michael Roberts (18-0-1, 1 KO) together in an eliminator, which will also double up as a clash for the Scottish Super featherweight title.
Undefeated prospect Ryan Burnett (13-0, 9 stoppages) has been ordered to defend his bantamweight title against former world titlist Paul Butler (21-1, 12 KOs). Khalid Yafai-Jamie Conlon has also been ordered for the Birmingham-based Champion’s Super flyweight title.
In the division below, rapidly rising contender Andrew Selby (5-0, 3 KOs) has been ordered to defend against the experienced Kevin Satchell (16-0, 3 KOs) in a clash of undefeated talents. As above, bids are due in by August 10 with the fight to take place by the end of November.
A European title fight was also confirmed in a separate notice, current holder Ruben Nieto’s (17-1, 8 KOs) rematch against Lenny Daws (30-4-2, 11 KOs) has been secured by Mick Hennessy, who will announce a date and venue in due course.
