Joel Bauya’s manager, former boxer Emil Romano has filed a strong protest with the Philippine Games and Amusements Board over the eight round split decision loss to Michael Domingo at the New San Andres Civic and Sports Center last Saturday.
Bauya lost his bantamweight title after an accidental head-butt opened a cut on Domingo forcing the referee, on the advice of the ring physician, to stop the bout and go to the scorecards of the three judges. Epie Almeda scored it 78-74 while Ricardo Canlas scored it 77-75 for Domingo while the third judge, veteran Ferdie Estrella had Bauya the winner 77-75.
GAB boxing division chief Noli Flores requested Viva Sports which covered the fights promoted by Viva Entertainment Inc., president Vic Del Rosario for a tape of the bout so they could "review the fight" which would help decide on the complaint of Romano on what was considered a controversial decision.
The Bauya-Domingo title fight will be telecast on Sunday, August 7 on the top-rated weekly boxing show "Main Event" at 1:00 p.m. over RPN 9 sponsored by Tanduay, the No.1 Rhum, PCSO, Motolite, Red Bull and Discovery Suites.
