In a swift follow through to its initial broad agreement with the ALA Gym of respected boxing patron Tony Aldeguer and well-known promoter Sammy Gello-ani to promote its fighters in the US, Golden Boy Promotions yesterday signed fight contracts for WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight champion Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista and newly crowned OPBF super flyweight champion Z "The Dream" Gorres.
Bautista will be featured on the undercard of the May 20 WBC super featherweight title fight between Marco Antonio Barrera and Rocky Juarez while Gorres will be featured in a supporting bout on the WBO bantamweight title clash between Johnny Gonzales and super flyweight champion Fernando Montiel who is moving up to the 118 pound division.
The Gorres fight is scheduled for May 27. A win for the flashy southpaw who is regarded as the technically finest boxer among a whole crop of exciting young prospects from the ALA Gym will pave the way for a crack at the vacant title against No.1 contender Martin "Too Much" Power of Britain who is undefeated in 18 fights with 7 knockouts. Gorres is currently ranked No.2 by the WBO while Bautista is No. 1 in the bantamweight division.
