Undefeated prospect Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista will begin his preparations for the mandatory shot against World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon of Mexico next week.

Bautista spent his last few weeks with his family in Candijay in Bohol after solidifying his position as De Leon’s top ranked contender with unanimous decision win over Argentinean Sergio Manuel Medina in the battle of undefeated for WBO super bantamweight title eliminator on May 5 in Las Vegas.

The 5-6 fighter, who will turn 21-years-old on June 19, also acquired the right to face De Leon, turning 27-years-old in July, in mandatory bout with his victory.

Bautista has 17 knockout wins in 23 starts while De Leon improved his stock to
31-1 with 28 knockouts after defending his title against former WBC super flyweight titlist Gerry Penalosa with unanimous decision on March 17.

Bautista will train at the Ala Gym in the Philippine central province of Cebu under former WBC minimumweight title challenger Edito Villamor.
