HOLLYWOOD, FL - 2008 Puerto Rican Olympian Jonathan Gonzalez is the latest world-class competitor to join the Seminole Warriors team with the announcement that the company has teamed up with Universal Promotions of Puerto Rico to promote the exciting junior welterweight prospect.
“We’re excited to have Jonathan Gonzalez on the Warriors team, and I have no doubt that he has the potential to be the next in line after Miguel Cotto and Juan Manuel Lopez as a world champion from Caguas, Puerto Rico,” said Leon Margules, Executive Director of Seminole Warriors Boxing.
A Silver medalist at the Pan American Games and a Gold Medal winner in the Jose “Cheo” Aponte Tournament (both in 2007) who finished his amateur career with a stellar 132-18 record, the 19-year old Caguas native also represented Puerto Rico in Beijing, during the Olympics this past summer. Gonzalez will make his pro debut on the “Hard Knocks at The Hard Rock” card at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on Wednesday, January 14th.
For tickets, priced at $152, $102, $52, and $22, please visit the Hard Rock Live Box Office or TicketMaster.com. Headlining the card is a triple-header featuring three of boxing’s most exciting talents – super middleweight contender Edison “Pantera” Miranda, junior middleweight standout Sechew “Iron Horse” Powell, and former undisputed cruiserweight champion O’Neil Bell, who will be making his long-awaited heavyweight debut.
An opponent for Gonzalez will be announced at a later date.
Middleweight prospect Daniel “The Haitian Sensation” Edouard (21-2-2 (12) KOs) destroys Panama Champion Eduardo De La Cruz in stellar fashion by first round KO to win the WBA Fedelatin Middleweight Championship at Hotel Melia Panama Canal in Colon City, Panama.
Edouard dictated the pace from the onset of the fight and showed improved boxing ability as he pounded Cruz with pinpoint shots until the fight came to a crashing halt at 2:08 of the first round. Edouard’s skill proved to be too much for Cruz sending referee Hector Montes in to waive the fight off. “The fight ended early but I want you to know that Eduardo (De La Cruz) is a tough fighter” said Edouard. “I landed a hard quick shot which he basically couldn’t recover from.”
“I want to thank Premium Boxing Promotions and Jacques Deschamps for allowing me to come to this wonderful country and box in front of these amazing boxing fans” said Edouard. “Winning the WBA Fedelatin Title is a step towards becoming a contender. A lot of fighters with 25 fights wouldn’t like to be called a prospect but I think that label fits my situation perfectly. It’s a testament to where I am in the sport. This time I’m doing it the right way so when I get back to that contender level I will be ready.”
Edouard is tentatively scheduled to fight again February 6 in his hometown of West Palm Beach, Florida. “The fight in West Palm Beach will be for my people” said Edouard. “Americans, Haitians, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Jamaicans. It will be for us all. A time for my people to watch awesome fights, have a good time and party!”
ATLANTA, GA - Middleweight Bastie “THE BEAST” Samir continued his march through the East Coast with a thundering first round TKO win over Antonio Fanning on Saturday night in Atlanta, GA.
Starting with his trademark bazooka like jab, Samir found his target continuously throughout the first stanza. Breaking down his opponents' defense, Samir rained down with a barrage of punches on the battered Fanning before the bout was called to a halt at the 2:57 mark.
The win moves Samir to 2-0, both wins coming by way of first round knockouts. The 2008 Ghana Olympic Team Captain made his pro debut by stopping Marvin Blair on November 8th in York, PA.
Currently living and training in the boxing capital of Las Vegas, Samir is guided by award winning manager, Cameron Dunkin and promoter Chet Koerner, President of TKO BOXING Promotions. He is trained by John Rajala.
Said Dunkin, “This is just the beginning for “THE BEAST”. Next year will be huge as he moves forward. We’ve taken the wraps off and will unleash him on boxing fans across the country.”
“He’s the future of the middleweight division. With the power he has in both hands and his excellent defense, there is no ceiling for Bastie”, said Koerner.
Details on Samir’s next bout will be announced shortly.
