Former three division champion Marco Antonio Barrera is on board to fight Erik 'Terrible' Morales for a fourth time. According to Barrera, he was approached by Golden Boy Promotions Promotions Oscar De La Hoya, who wanted to inquire if Barrera was interested in such a fight. Barrera told De La Hoya that he was very interested. The tentative date would be July 30 on pay-per-view. Barrera has a 2-1 edge in the trilogy with Morales.

"I spoke to him in the afternoon and I was asked if I was willing to fight Morales for a fourth time and I said 'yes.' It is a fight that catches my attention. My relationship with Zanfer is based on a verbal deal and I told them that if I got an offer for a big fight, that I would take it, and that was our agreement. I would like to fight by August, but first we have to see what the offer is," said Barrera to Sal Rodriguez.

Richard Schaefer, CEO for Golden Boy, stated in a recent BoxingScene.com interview, that a fourth meeting between Morales and Barrera was certainly a possible fight for the summer. Morales won the first meeting in 2000, but Barrera won the next two fights in 2002 and 2004.
