Former three-division champion Marco Antonio Barrera is currently in deep training for a ring return that is now being reported for January 31 in Guadalajara, Mexico. ESTO reports that Barrera's promoter, Don King, plans to put together a card in the country with Barrera being the headliner. The opponent has yet to be announced but a tough challenger is not expected for the ten round contest.

The January return is a "keep busy" fight while Barrera awaits the winner of the February 14 clash between WBO/WBA/IBF lightweight champion Nate Campbell and IBF mandatory Ali Funeka. Barrera is ranked at number one by the WBO. He feels confident that Campbell will fight him next.

Barrera is expecting to fight Campbell in April. He may not be alone. Juan Manuel Marquez is reportedly another fighter interested in fighting Campbell - if he gets past Juan Diaz on February 28.
