At the Colosseum in Watford, Hertfordshire, Commonwealth middleweight champion Darren Barker (20-0, 13KOs) stopped Darren McDermott (16-2, 9KOs) in four rounds. The fight was a BBBofC British middleweight title eliminator. Barker will now face British middleweight champ Matthew Macklin.

Barker controlled the early parts of the fight with his jab and used it as a range finder to set up his bigger punches. McDermott was more interested in making the fight into an inside war, with Barker more than happy to oblige his request. During the fourth round action, Barker was starting to let his right hand go. And that set up a hard right that caught McDermott sleeping and sent him down. He was able to beat the count, but the referee felt McDermott was unsteady on his feet and stopped the contest.
