DAVAO CITY -- Filipino challenger Balweg Bangoyan knows the importance of his upcoming title shot against Kenya’s World Boxing Council (WBC) International super bantamweight champion Sande Otieno.

Balweg promise to treat each round seriously until he realizes his expectation of taking the title belt inside of eight rounds at the Rizal Memorial College Gym.

We studied his moves in several videos of his fights on Youtube, I can beat him up,” said the 21-year old native of Jose Abad Santos in Davao del Sur here in southern Philippines. “I predict, he’ll level on the floor, maybe in round 5, round 6 until round 8.”

Should Bangoyan wins, his handler Jose Abad Santos Mayor Alex Wangkay, who is also known as Zander Khan in showbiz, will try to negotiate for a crack against WBC super bantamweight champion Israel Vazquez of Mexico next year.

My dream is to emulate Pacquiao’s feat. He’s my idol,” said Bangoyan, who laughed out loud at Otieno’s threat of beating him up.

Pacquiao also held the title after losing his WBC flyweight crown in 1998 until taking the IBF super bantamweight belt from South Africa’s Lehlo Ledwaba with sensational 6th round stoppage win in June 2001 in Las Vegas.

Wangkay will be making his first boxing promotion since staging Pacquiao’s successful defense of that title belt against Fil-Aussie Arnel Barotillo in April 2003 in Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

“I feel great to be back,” said Wangkay, who has vision to bring back the glorious days of boxers from Mindanao.

The Bangoyan-Otieno contest is the biggest boxing event here in Davao City after Pacquiao defended his IBF title belt to No. 1 contender Fahprakorb Rakkiatgym of Thailand with a first round knockout win, also at RMC, in October 2002.

"We need this world class boxing  show here in Davao to draw more supports again and encourage the Mindanaoans to take boxing seriously like Pacquiao does,” said Wangkay.

At yesterday’s test weigh-in at Games and Amusement Board office here, both protagonists submitted 123 pounds, a pound over the limit that they must tip the scale in the official weigh in this 2pm at the Holiday Spa in  Torres Street.

With full support of the Dutertes: Mayor Rodrigo, Association of Barangay Chairmen president Paolo and Vice Mayor Sara, the card called “Ring war in Davao” is packed with young talents.

World rated Rexon Flores of Elorde Stable in Paranaque City takes on Otieno’s brother Nick Otieno in the scheduled 10-round nont-title bout. There are 9 other bouts on the card.
