On May 19th former two-division champion Badou Jack (22-1-2) will step into the ring against WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (29-1) in Toronto, Canada. The fight will headline a Showtime doubleheader.
The fight will be the second in the light heavyweight champion for Jack who has held titles in both the super middleweight division and at 175 pounds.
Even though Stevenson has campaigned as a light heavyweight for several years, Jack is the bigger fighter.
"I am definitely the bigger man but he is a big puncher so it don't really matter physically who is bigger. I might be big and strong but he is a big puncher. It don't really matter who is taller or bigger. I definitely am the bigger person. He even said that at the face off. He said, damn you are a big guy and I said I am the one coming up from super middleweight and he said me too, I just came up from super middleweight," Jack told BoxingScene.com.
"He said that he can still make 168 and I said good for you because I can't make it."
The 34-year-old Jack had campaigned his whole career at super middleweight and admitted that it had been tough to make weight his last couple fights in the division. He believes that he is a better fighter and a bigger hitter when he doesn't have to lose the additional seven pounds to get down to 168.
He believes that a knockout of Stevenson is very possible but is prepared to go the full 12 rounds if necessary.
"I am a stronger and better puncher at 175. Hopefully (I get the knockout) but if it goes to the scorecards that is fine too. As long as I get the win that is all that matters," said Jack.
Gary Russell Jr. will defend his WBC featherweight title against Joseph Diaz in the co-main event that will take place in Maryland as the second fight of Showtime's split site doubleheader.
