When the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor crossover mega-fight was being negotiated, Mayweather stated that he wanted to give his IBF super featherweight champion Gervonta "Tank" Davis (18-0) and former super middleweight champion Badou Jack slots on the pay-per-view undercard.
Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, who promotes WBA "regular" light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly, is trying to make a deal where his boxer will face Jack - potentially on the Mayweather-McGregor card.
Mayweather vs. McGregor was finalized last week and will take place at the T-Mobile Arena, which is located just behind the New York New York Hotel and Casino.
Las Vegas will be buzzing and full of curious stars, fans and reporters from both the boxing and MMA worlds alike during fight week. The contest will be fought under traditional boxing rules.
"It is great exposure. I am blessed and thankful to be on that card," Jack stated.
The 33-year-old native of Sweden shares the same opinion of the fight as many experts, that McGregor doesn't have much of a chance to beat the undefeated former pound-for-pound king.
"His only chance is to land a lucky punch. It takes years to learn boxing. It isn't something you learn overnight. They say he has some amateur fights but he doesn't stand a chance against Floyd," reasoned Jack.
Mayweather (49-0) is now 40-years-old but according to Jack is looking as good as ever. He is very confident that he will be his old self when he gets in the ring on August 26th.
"He hasn't done anything in like two years but he is back in the gym sparring. He is getting sharper already. Give him two weeks and he will destroy this guy," Jack told BoxingScene.com.
