Offer’s help to Clinton in fight for the White House!
By Michael Doss
Texas - Current WBA/IBF/WBO lightweight champion Juan Diaz helped lead a Hillary Clinton support rally with several hundred people today in downtown Houston that was supported by congress woman Sheila Jackson Lee with many local political figures and dignitaries present.
Juan did 2 speeches for the large crowd rallying support for Clinton who will be in the city next week.
He stated that he would do anything that he could to support Hilary, one reason being is because Juan, when he was just a young boy, said that he could remember how she was pushing free health insurance for the people who could not afford it.
“I remember when Bill Clinton won the second nomination and Hilary was doing her speech and said that it takes a village to raise a child and that quote has been true to me in life because I would not be where I am today if it were not for the village to help raise me. I am a democrat through and through and at the end of the day I will support whatever candidate that is chosen but for right now I am on the campaign trail for Hilary Clinton”
Today, Juan also had a little surprise of his own and a bit of inspiration when the father of an American soldier in Iraq asked for a picture with him so he could send it to his daughter who ironically Juan found out was a former classmate of his in high school.
Juan Diaz’s manager Willie Savannah - "This man came up to me and didn’t think that Houston’s world champion would give him a picture with him because of so many things that he had going on and he asked me if it was possible if Juan could take a picture with him to give to his daughter in Iraq.
"Juan was very quick to give this man anything that he needed and had his brother (Featherweight contender and fellow college student) Jose Diaz snap the picture.
The guy was so surprised to see Juan, such a big figure in boxing and a bright future in politics, give him so much time and attention. Juan can be whatever he wants to be. I wouldn’t be surprised if he makes mayor, even governor, one day I think that I could even be calling him Mr. President."
"He is such a bright kid who loves everyone no matter what creed, color or preference and thinks that everyone should be equal. Juan strongly believes that all the kids and less fortunate people should all have free healthcare like other countries and thinks that we could be the same as those other countries if we were not spending so much money on the Iraqi war."
"I remember when Juan was 18 and just registered to vote and asked me what he was, a Democrat or Republican and then I asked him, well do you believe free healthcare, rights for all people, do you believe that there should be more care for senior citizens and more rights for poor people?"
"He said that he believed in all of that whole heartedly and then I said, well Juan, you are a Democrat!”
The coverage of Juan’s speech will be focused on the 10 o’clock news all throughout Houston.
Juan is scheduled to face top contender Nate Campbell on March 8 in Cancun on HBO.
