Rising Turkish super middleweight Avni Yildirim continued his busy schedule this year with yet another triumph.
Yildirim, 25, known also as Mr. Robot, took on slick journeyman Aaron Pryor Jr. and outpointed him convincingly with a wide unanimous decision over ten rounds. The fight, which was organized by Vlad Eliseev and Ahmet Oner in Kreuzberg, Berlin.
Scores were: 100-90, 100-90, and 99-91 - for the WBC #4 and IBF #12 Turkish fighter, who improved his record to 13-0, 8 KOs. Yildirim kicked off his pro career in 2014. His win over Pryor Jr. was his fifth in 2016. Meanwhile, Pryor Jr. goes down to 19-10-2, 12 KOs, and he hasn't won a match since May 2013.
Avni has racked up 11 victories in the last 18 months, including wins over "Road Warrior" Glen Johnson and Walter Sequeira, and in his most recent fight on July 23rd, Yildrim defeated the then unbeaten Timur Nikarkhoev.
IN OTHER NEWS: The Smithfield Boxing Club, in conjunction with the IABA and Dublin City Council,are once again organising a big international tournament, the 2016 Smithfield Box Fest.
The dates are Thursday 29th and Friday 30th of September and Saturday October 1st.
“It’s our seventh consecutive year running the tournament, and, as always, it promises to be a magnificent event. We already have ten top boxing nations confirmed and they will be bringing full squads in most weights and ages, said Igor Khmil, head coach with the Smithfield BC.
“Teams from Russia,Ukraine,Germany,England,Lithuania,Poland,Latvia,Norway,Denmark and a number of other nations will be competing.
“Each year the diversity of the “Smithfield Box Fest” improves and last year we had over thirty World and European medallists across all age groups and weight divisions,” he added. “We hope to hear from you all soon.”
