Current WBA Junior Middleweight champion Austin Trout will return to US television when he takes on the always exciting Delvin Rodriguez as part of a quadrupleheader on June 2nd airing live on Showtime. While Trout holds a major title in one of boxing’s deepest divisions, he hasn’t had much success being able to land a big name fight. Part of the problem was him recently fighting more outside of the US than in it but he has since signed to Al Haymon and plans to get the proper exposure.

BoxingScene.com spoke to Austin Trout and asked if he felt he needed to put on a dominant performance in order to not only get the fans attention, but also get the attention of the other fighters in his division.

“It’s almost like a double edged sword. If I beat the hell out of Delvin, the other guys might not want to fight me. But what I’m planning on doing is having a good show. I do plan on beating Delvin decisively and getting the public to clamor for Trout vs. Cotto or Trout vs. Canelo. So if I can get the public behind me, I think we’ll be okay” said Trout.

Trout assured he’s not looking over Delvin but he does have other fights he’d like to be involved in should he be victorious. A name he’d like to fight in particular is another champion in the division in Saul “Canelo” Alvarez who at one point vowed to avenge his brother Rigoberto Alvarez’s loss to Trout. That loss by Rigoberto was for the WBA championship Trout now holds and Trout wanted to remind Canelo of that.

“Ofcourse I want those other belts. Especially that coveted green belt. Cinnamon, I definitely will be watching. I’ve been looking at you since I beat your big brother” said Trout with a smile.

There are other names in the division that also interest Trout. The undefeated champion doesn’t hide the fact that he’d like to fight the top fighters in his division and also has some reasoning behind why he’d like those fights in particular.

“Kirkland, you know I’d love to take Kirkland out. I’ve been felt he’s overrated. We wanted that fight a long time ago. Vanes took my Olympic spot. I didn’t forget about Vanes Martirosyan. I’d like to take him out. Anybody at the 154 pound class that’s in the top 10, I want that name” said Trout to BoxingScene.com.

Before Austin can make those fights a reality, he first needs to take care of business against the tough Delvin Rodriguez at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA on June 2nd.
