Audley Harrison sat down with the media today ahead of his April 9th European title showdown with Albert Sosnowski. Audley, 38, meets Albert at Alexandra Palace and the 2001 Olympic gold medallist believes that his recent Prizefighter: The Heavyweights win has bolstered his standing in the sport.
‘A-Force’ also feels that a win will put him line for a shot at either of the Klitschko brothers, leaving fellow Londoner, and current WBA heavyweight champion, David Haye at the back of the Audley Harrison queue.
“I'm not interested in David Haye,” revealed Harrison, possibly breaking a few Bermondsey (Haye’s hometown) hearts in the process. “All I'm interested in at the moment is Albert Sosnowski and he will not give up that belt easily. The worst thing I could do is look past Albert. If I can't get past him then there's nothing in the future.”
“The heavyweight division is desperately looking for marquee names and, no disrespect to David Haye, but no one in the US is talking about David Haye. They're all talking about the Klitschkos and no one is giving David Haye any play as a world champion so the guys I want to fight are the Klitschkos. If you get a chance against David Haye then people will say, ‘You now have to beat the Klitschkos’, so if I beat Albert, I want the Klitschkos,” declared the 26-4 (19) boxer.
Sosnowski, however, will have his own ideas. The London-based Polish fighter is 45-2-1 and holds wins over Danny Williams and Paolo Vidoz, who Albert, 30, defeated on points to win the vacant EBU title; he will be looking to rain on Audley’s parade come fight night.
