The mandatory challenger for EBU title, Ukrainian heavyweight Alexander Dimitrenko, told allboxing.ru that he made a decision to withdraw from a scheduled fight on the May 22 undercard to Ruslan Chagaev vs. Kali Meehan - because he plans to fight EBU champion Audley Harrison in July.
"Recently I met with the heads of Universum Box-Promotion, and we have decided to cancel the fight on May 22 in order to avoid risking our title fight against Harrison. To prevent the chance of trauma or the occurrence of any unforeseen circumstance, we have begun high-grade preparation for Harrison. I have not fought for a long time so we want a lot of sparring," Dimitrenko said.
