Helsinki, Finland - Finnish middleweight Amin Asikainen won the vacant EU title with an impressive fifth round knockout over experienced Frenchman Christophe Tendil. Asikainen boxed carefully on the move, picking his shots and was ahead on points after four rounds. Tendil upped the pace in the fifth and got Asikainen against the ropes. This time the Finn didn´t move away but traded with his opponent landing with a good left hook, fielding a right before scoring with a perfect counterpunch, a short powerful right. Tendil fell face first and remained down for several minutes.
Jr welterweight Juho Tolppola won an unanimous ten-round decision over strong Russian Nikita Zaitzev. Tolppola boxed on the move and did it well keeping Zaitzev at bay.
Norwegian jr featherweight Reidar Walstad looked good in beating Marcel Kasimov over eight but picked up a bad cut in the seventh that needed ten stitches to close. This will keep Reidar off the Kessler vs Tsypko bill in Copenhagen June 9.
There was about 1500 spectators in the Kisahalle but the attendance was hurt by the nice summer weather and the world cup in ice hockey. The show was promoted by P 3 Boxing and televised by MTV3.
