Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. could follow up on his rematch win over Bryan Vera with an early summer appearance on HBO, followed by a fall pay-per-view against a notable name, according to Bob Arum of Top Rank.
“Next for him, because it was such an entertaining fight, I think it probably got a great rating, and [Gennady] Golovkin, he had to postpone his fight [on April 26] because of the unfortunate death of his father, we would look for Julio to fight another HBO fight and then look in the fall to either Golovkin, [Carl] Froch if he beats [George] Groves on May 31, or even [Jean] Pascal,” Arum told reporters at the Alamodome in San Antonio after Chavez’s unanimous decision victory.
Golovkin, who holds a middleweight title, has indicated that he’d be willing to move up to the 168-pound division for the right fights. He is taking time away from the ring following his father’s recent passing from a heart attack. Froch, a super middleweight titleholder, is due for a rematch with Groves. Pascal, a light heavyweight, is coming off a decision win over Lucian Bute.
