Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who co-promotes WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has revealed that he's been speaking with the handlers for IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk.
Usyk is scheduled to defend his unified crown in a rematch with Anthony Joshua on August 20th in Saudi Arabia.
Last September, Usyk outboxed Joshua over twelve rounds at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to capture his four belts.
Fury last saw action back in April, when he dominated and stopped mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte in six rounds.
Afterwards, Fury vowed to retire from the sport.
Most observers expect Fury to fight again - at least for one more bout against the winner of the upcoming rematch between Usyk and Joshua.
The first time around, Usyk was the underdog - because most saw him as being too small a fighter. However, the man who unified the entire cruiserweight division is now the betting favorite in the rematch.
According to Arum, his conversations with Usyk's handlers have been positive - and they are very eager to face Fury for the undisputed crown at heavyweight.
"I'm hoping that Usyk wins because I have talked with his people and I think they would be anxious to fight Tyson Fury,” Arum told Barbershop Conversations. “And I am hoping to do that fight in December or early next year.
"I just think Usyk is a better talent than Joshua and he is certainly quicker than him and I would like Usyk in the undisputed fight. But could it go the other way, yes possibly."
