Promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank feels that Oscar De La Hoya's new trainer, Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain, will hurt and not help De La Hoya's training for the fight with Manny Pacquiao on December 6.
Arum says Beristain is a great trainer, one of the best, but called him a control freak and believes that he will try to change De La Hoya's style and as a result the entire training camp will be upside down.
“If he’s gonna try to impose his style on Oscar who is not a quick learner, all Nacho’s gonna do is screw him up. Wait till you see. Oscar’s gonna change his style and it’s not going to work,” Arum said to SportsNews.ph. "Nacho is a control freak and when he has a fighter from the beginning, like one of the Marquez brothers, he’s a terrific trainer."
Arum still believes that in the end, Pacquiao will not only beat De La Hoya, but knock him out in the late rounds.
“I’m really confident, I’m not just saying this. I’m very confident that Manny will win this fight and win it by late round stoppage,” said Arum.
