The opponent for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has been switched again. Carlos Nascimento of Brazil is out, and Pawel Wolak of New Jersey is back in. Wolak was the orginal choice to face Chavez in a twelve round middleweight bout on September 11 in Mexico. The fight fell through when the two sides could not agree on the money. Wolak wanted $90,000 for the bout and Top Rank was only offering $75,000 max.
After Nascimento was being positioned as the replacement, Wolak came back to the table and the two sides reached an agreement, although the fight is now said to be a ten rounder at an agreed upon weight of 158-pounds. Chavez will begin camp this week with Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California.
If Chavez looks impressive in September, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum plans to match him against WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto on December 4, with the fight taking place in Atlantic City, New York's Madison Square Garden or the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
"[Cotto-Chavez] would be huge. Cotto has agreed to the fight, provided that it's not in Mexico," said Arum. "So, it would be probably either in Atlantic City, or New York, although I don't know what the Garden's schedule is. Or, in Las Vegas at The MGM Grand."
