Super lightweight prospect Jose Ramirez improved to 15-0 (12 KO's) this past weekend in Macao where he stopped Ryusei Yoshida in three rounds. The outing impressed the chairman of Top Rank, INC, which promotes the 22-year old from Avenal, California.
"He looked terrific, he acted really great out there. He made the tough Japanese guy quit and he's the goods and he's going again in September," said Bob Arum.
Since hooking up full-time with trainer Freddie Roach at the beginning of the year, Ramirez has improved steadily. His team hopes to end 2015 with a flourish.
His adviser Rick Mirigian (who wears many hats for Ramirez) told BoxingScene.com - "Right now I'm looking at producing a very limited, special fight here in Central California that will be limited to only 2,000 people. I find out Thursday morning if it's a go and it looks like it's going to happen. That's next."
But Mirigian has bigger and better things in mind for Ramirez, who has become a bona-fide draw early on in Fresno. His fight on May 9th versus Robert Frankel at the Sellend Arena drew around 10,000 patrons.
"There's a plan I've been working on four for months, it's to end the year in a massive way with one of the top fie arena's in the United States, the Save Mart Center," said Mirigian of the venue that is located on the campus of Frenso State.
"It's up there with the Madison Square Garden and American Airlines Arena and I'm trying to put an event with him as the main event.
"So those are the two things coming up next. It's a lot of work but I think I can pull it off."
