It really didn't matter much that Promociones de Pueblo won the purse bid for the WBC super bantamweight eliminator between the number one contender Hugo Ruiz and number three ranked Nonito Donaire, with a bid of $537,000. Top Rank which promotes 'the Filipino Flash' made the decision to not participate it this purse bid beforehand.
"They didn't want to do that,"said the head of Top Rank, Bob Arum, speaking in regards to Donaire's management, which is headed by Cameron Dunkin.
"As far as I was concerned, we would've bid but Cameron said no."
But Donaire will stay on the July 18th card in Macao. According to Dunkin, Donaire will now face Frenchman Anthony Settoul and then will move onto a much bigger fight.
"If he's successful we're going to match with him one of the two English guys," said Arum, referring to 122-belt holders Scott Quigg and Carl Frampton.
