If 2012 Olympic bronze medal winner Oleksandr Gvozdyk (10-0 8 KOs) gets past Tommy Karpency (26-5-1) on July 23rd in Las Vegas, Nevada, as part of the Terrence Crawford-Viktor Postol HBO pay-per-view undercard - Top Rank CEO Bob Arum would like to accelerate the talented Ukrainian's level of competition.
Gvozdyk secured a showcase position on the card after WBO super middleweight world champion Gilberto Ramirez suffered a hand injury and was forced to withdraw from his contest to undergo surgery.
In April on the Manny Pacquiao-Tim Bradley III undercard, Gvozdyk surprised many when he blasted out former title challenger Nadjib Mohammedi (37-5) in two rounds. Mohammedi had challenged unified champion Sergey Kovalev last July and was stopped in three rounds.
Just how fast would Arum like to move Gvozdyk? He's willing to match him against WBC world champion Adonis Stevenson at any time, and expects his man to knock the champion out cold.
Stevenson is scheduled to return to the ring later this month in a voluntary defense against Thomas Williams. Beyond that he would have to make his mandatory defense against stablemate Eleider Alvarez.
"[I would like to move Gvozdyk] real fast. I mean if I could do a fight, him against Stevenson - and even go for small money - he would knock Stevenson cold. Trust me," Arum told BoxingScene.com.
