Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who promotes former two division world champion Carl Frampton, says the boxer has a quicker path to a world title if he decides to move up in weight to the super featherweight limit of 130-pounds.
"Without any question (moving up) would be a quicker route," said Arum to BBC Sport. "There's a lot of room if Carl decides to go for the super featherweight title."
Frampton will return to the ring on Saturday night, when he faces Emmanuel Dominguez. This will be Frampton's first fight since losing a tough twelve round decision to IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington in December.
Frampton was on course to challenge Oscar Valdez for the WBO featherweight title.
But then Valdez announced that he was vacating the title and moving up to super featherweight.
Now Shakur Stevenson and Joet Gonzalez will collide for the vacant WBO belt.
Stevenson is also promoted by Top Rank, but Arum does not like the idea of matching Frampton against him.
"We can make a fight for Carl at featherweight," said Arum.
"(But) I don't think at this stage that Frampton does well with Shakur. Shakur is an amazing talent who will probably end up to be a welterweight."
But if he decides to go to 130, Arum could then match him against WBO champion Jamal Herring. And another option is making a fight, without a world title, against Valdez at super featherweight.
"I think Frampton would do very well with Herring," Arum said. "If he wants to fight Valdez and he's going up to 130, he could still fight Valdez even if it's not for a title, it would still be a huge fight in the United States."
