Wynn Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada - Earlier this week former four-division champion Nonito Donaire (35-3) signed a contract extension with long time promoter Top Rank. His first fight under his new deal will be against Cesar Juarez (17-3) on December 11th in a bout televised on truTV.
The fight will be for the vacant WBO super bantamweight title that was recently stripped from Guillermo Rigondeaux due to the Cuban's infrequent ring appearances.
Top Rank CEO Bob Arum said that Donaire wants to make another run at boxing's elite and his target may surprise some people.
"Well Nonito was in our office signing a contract this week and the guy he wants to fight most for some reason is (Vasyl) Lomachenko. Most guys run from Lomachenko but that is who Nonito wants to fight," Arum told BoxingScene.com.
When asked if he thought the oft-avoided featherweight champion and former amateur standout would accept Donaire's challenge, Arum said, "Lomachenko would fight (Wladimir) Klitschko if I asked him. Lomachenko would fight anybody. He is a real warrior."
