According to Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, the next logical step for both Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto - could be a rematch with each other. In 2008, Margarito pulled off the biggest win of his career when he stopped Cotto to capture the welterweight crown for a third time. Since their fight, both boxers have suffered bruising defeats to Manny Pacquiao.
"I promote both Antonio and Miguel Cotto. Now both of them got an ass-whipping from Manny, so maybe I'll put them together and I think that it would make for a really good fight," Arum said.
Several locations would be explored to stage the rematch, but Arum says the best location for this fight to take place would be in the New York area. The first fight took place in Las Vegas, where Margarito was the crowd favorite.
"A Cotto-Margarito fight, I think the best area is the New York metropolitan area. Whether it's Yankee Stadium, or Madison Square Garden, or the new Meadowlands or the new tennis stadium, but I think it belongs in New York," Arum said.
