As expected, a legal battle has exploded over the estate of the late Arturo Gatti. The two sides have drawn their battle lines. Gatti's family vs. Amanda Rodrigues, the widow of the former champion, at the Quebec Superior Court. Gatti was found dead by his wife on July 11 at the condo they were renting on a resort in Brazil. She was arrested and held as the lead suspect in his death. An autopsy would rule Gatti's death as a suicide and Rodrigues was released from police custody.
Rodrigues is trying to get Gatti's entire estate worth an estimated $6 million. She is making a claim to the entire estate through a will that was signed only three weeks before the fighter's death. It left the entire estate to Rodrigues, with nothing going to his family or his other child from a prior relationship. Gatti's family have long claimed that Rodrigues forced Gatti's to modify his will by theatening to leave the country with their son.
The Montreal Gazette reports that Rodrigues is asking for an immediate support payment of $150,000 plus custody of the dog. She is also trying claim an unspecified number of high-end cars, jewelery, two palatial Montreal condominiums, land in Vero Beach, Florida, half-ownership in condo developer company Groupe Gatti-Rizzo and $2.4 million currently being managed by two investment firms, Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch.
