It was revealed during the lastest edition of ESPN's Friday Night Fights, that heavyweight veteran Jameel McCline (39-9, 23KOs) has signed a contract to fight undefeated contender Chris Arreola (26-0, 23KOs), who is scheduled to fight on the April 11 undercard to Winky Wright vs. Paul Williams. Both fights will be televised by HBO from the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
McCline has been on a bad run over the last two years. He broke a three fight losing streak last August when he won a ten round decision over Chicago heavyweight Mike Mollo. Prior to the Mollo win, McCline lost a decision to John Ruiz, came close to stopping Sam Peter but ultimately lost a decision, and suffered an injury that forced him to retire during his title bout with Nikolai Valuev.
McCline is dangerous in the first few rounds but tends to gas out. Arreola has already beaten fighters who may be just as durable as McCline, like Travis Walker and Chazz Whitaker. At age 38, this is McCline's last shot at a big fight.
