A interesting doubleheader is being worked on for October 3, with the Citizens Business Bank in Ontario or Home Depot Center in Los Angeles as the venues to host. Undefeated Chris Arreola will face former heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev. Arreola is trying to work his way to a future meeting with WBC champion Vitali Klitschko. Maskaev at age 40 is staging one final run after being knocked out by Sam Peter in the early part of 2008. Maskaev has won two fights since then.
Arreola's agent confirmed the bout to The Los Angeles Times.
"We were at the mercy of the Klitschkos," said Arreola's agent, Jeremiah Donati of Leigh Steinberg's firm in Newport Beach. "They'll still have to go through Chris after Maskaev, but it'll be a good test for Chris."
The second bout would feature Paul "The Punisher" Williams return to junior middleweight for a bout with undefeated WBO champion Sergei Dzinziruk. Williams is coming off a dominating decision win over Winky Wright.
