Home Depot Center, Carson, California - 2008 United States Olympian Javier Molina, looking to give his career some much needed consistency, fought for the first time since November of 2010 and displayed many of the skills that made him a prospect to watch. He won four round unanimous decision over Danny Figueroa with all all three judges scoring it 40-36. Molina displayed a sharp array of punches that found Figueroa often while staying out of Figueroa's punch range. Molina now improves to 6-0 (4KOs) while Figueroa drops to 3-2 (2KOs).
In a ten round heavyweight contest, a much slimmer, 234-pound Chris Arreola (31-2, 27KOs), went right after Nagy Aguilera (16-6, 11KOs) in the first round and turned the fight into a physical brawl from the start. In the third, Arreola pinned Aguilera against the ropes and battered him to the head and body until the referee stepped in to stop the fight.
Arreola seemed to have better movement for this fight; often keeping the pressure on Aguilera. The first round started slow with Arreola trying to work behind his jab while attempting to trap Aguilera in the corner to work, but Aguilera tried to keep a safe distance. Arreola came out with a barrage to open up the second round but seemed to be in need of some rest, which allowed Aguilera to land some punches against the ropes.
Aguilera seemed content to stay on the outside trying to keep himself for languishing on the ropes for very long. In the third, Arreola stayed behind his jab which seemed to work as he had Aguilera stumbling to move away from the incoming shots. Aguilera could not stay away from the ropes for very long which allowed Arreola to trap him, and punish him, for the stoppage.
Matt Villanueva ups his record to a perfect 6-0, 6KOs with a first round stoppage of Frank Gutierrez. Both traded shots but Villanueva proved to have too much power, dropping Gutierrez's record to 2-10-2.
Andrey Klimov overpowered Ty Barnett in a junior welterweight scrap that saw Klimov stop Barnett in round 3 at 1:12.
Shawn Estrada (12-0, 11KOs) stopped an overmatched Joseph Gardner (7-3-1, 1KO) in the first round of a light heavyweight contest.
Middleweight contender Dominik Britsch (23-0, 7 KOs) stopped veteran Delray Raines (18-10-1, 13 KOs) in the fifth round. Raines went down four times in the fight before the referee waved it off.
Junior middleweight/welterweight prospect Armen Ovsepyan (11-1, 9 KOs) stopped Arthur Brambila (9-15, 4 KOs) in the first round. Ovsepyan has now put together an eleven win streak since losing his pro debut, by majority decision, in August of 2008. Brambila drops his sixth in a row.
