Super middleweight Armando Resendiz might be counted out by the oddsmakers, but he isn’t counted out by his team.

Resendiz faces former titleholder Caleb Plant on Saturday at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas. The bout will air on Prime Video.

The 26-year-old Resendiz, 15-2 (11 KOs), has had an interesting past couple of years. Touted as a prospect, he took his first career loss to Marcos Hernandez in 2021. That was followed by two knockout wins, one of which being over former titleholder Jarrett Hurd. Resendiz finds himself in a similar position that he was in before the Hurd fight.

“[Resendiz] has nothing to lose and a lot to win,” Edgar Jasso, the co-trainer of Resendiz said. “He's a great body puncher, puts a lot of pressure on his opponent.”

Resendiz of Compostela, Nayarit, Mexico entered the Hurd bout in 2023 as a +350 underdog. He will likely be even more of an underdog against the popular Plant, a native of Nashville, Tennessee who now resides in Las Vegas.

Jasso recalled the experience Resendiz gained from that fight against Hurd.

“When it came to the fight, I think it boosted him up,” Jasso said. “I saw his mentality and that hunger in him then right now as well.”

Against the 32-year-old Plant, 23-2 (14 KOs), Resendiz will have to fight the fight of his life, and to some that might not even be enough. Yet, those closest to Resendiz believe that he has the ability to pull off the upset. Resendiz rebounded from a 2023 stoppage loss to Elijah Garcia, getting a stoppage win over Fernando Paliza this February. Resendiz once again gets a big opportunity and now is looking to make the most of it. Jasso has quiet confidence in Resendiz leading up to the fight.

“People could say what they want, but don't count him out,” Jasso said.
