Mexicali, Mexico: Hard punching veteran Antonio Pitalua, 42, looked in excellent condition as he stopped local prospect Alvaro "Tyson" Robles in the eight round to capture the vacant WBC welterweight FECARBOX title in front of the hostile local crowd at the Mexicali Gymnasium.
Pitalua dominated the action dropping Robles twice in round 2, once in the 3rd, twice in the 4th and finally once in the 8th when the referee decided that it was enough. Pitalua raised his record to 53-6-1-47 KO's while the younger Robles dropped to 13-2-11 KO's.
In other results, Susana "Toluquita" Vazquez defeated Luz Rodriguez by unanimous decision in 8 rounds in the flyweight division and undefeated local featherweight prospect Victor Betancourt stopped Juan Francisco Rivera in 5 rounds.
