It was announced last week by Golden Boy Promotions that a bout between Orlando Salido and Takashi Miura for the WBC interim 130-pound title would headline a card at the Forum in Inglewood, California that would be televised by HBO on December 17th.
There is the possibility of other fights being added onto this broadcast. One name being mentioned is junior welterweight contender, Antonio Orozco.
His manager, Frank Espinoza told BoxingScene.com on Wednesday - "There's a good possibility that he's going to be fighting on that card. I've spoke to Eric Gomez (president of Golden Boy) and he's indicated to me that he'll fight some time in December. There are two dates available with Golden Boy and he'll be fighting on one of those dates."
As for who Orozco would be facing, Espinoza understands that there is a certain standard for bouts on premium cable.
"We haven't discussed it but when it comes to HBO and you start fighting on that platform you have to fight some names. So we're up to the challenge. He's number one in the WBC and he's ready,"said Espinoza.
Orozco, who has a record of 25-0 (16 KO's), last fought on July 30th where he gutted out a ten round decision over the game Abner Lopez. The expectation is for Orozco to get a title shot at some point in 2017.
"Most definitely," confirmed Espinoza,"that's our goal. We sat down with Golden Boy and we wanted to get one more fight in December and then move forward with that."
