Anthony Yarde remained undefeated with another victory.

The Ilford light-heavyweight, 27, stopped his latest opponent inside four rounds on Saturday, dropping him three times in the process.

Yarde, whose promoter Frank Warren revealed that he hopes to position his man into a shot at the world title within the next 12-18 months, was in action exclusively live on BT Sport

And the man who moved to 17-0 with 16 early retained his WBO Inter-Continental light-heavyweight title with a win over Argentina’s Walter Gabriel Sequeira at the Brentwood Centre in Essex, London.

Sequeira gave a reasonable account of himself in the opening couple of rounds, but he was worked over by Yarde in the latter stages of the contest before the referee Phil Edwards called a halt to proceedings after two minutes and 13 seconds of the fourth stanza.

A potential fight with Joshua Buatsi, the Rio Olympic 2016 bronze medallist, has been mooted, as has a potential showdown with former British champion Hosea Burton.

And though they don’t look like coming, the plan is indeed for bigger tests.

“It was a good fight but I’m still learning. I felt like I landed the shot I needed to to win the fight and it’s another victory,” Yarde said in the aftermath. “You get different opponents that give you different looks. I’m doing an apprenticeship in front of the world because of the way I fight and that’s why people want to see me get tested.

“I’ve had limited amateur experience, but there is no pressure. We are working every day in the gym and this is all part of the journey.”

The aforementioned promoter of Yarde, Frank Warren, said that his man is likely to fight again before Christmas.

“Anthony is a puncher, but I don’t want inexperience to be an issue when we step him up to world level,” Warren said. “We’re giving him more and more experience and the fella who we had in for him on Saturday came to fight.

“Our eyes are on a world title fight and I will get him into a position where, when I feel he’s right, we’ll let him off the hook.”
