Tony Mundine, father of WBA "regular" super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine, told media outlet APF that his son is unlikely to regain full vision in his infected left eye. The eye injury happened last weekend, when Mundine, while dining in a New Zealand restaurant, had a contact lens fall from his eye to the floor, and Mundine picked it up and cleaned it with his mouth before placing it back in his left eye. Soon after, a serious infection broke out in the eye.

"But we're just hoping and praying that he doesn't lose any sight long-term and he can come back and do what he wants to do in sport. I've talked to the doctor and he said it's a dangerous thing at the moment and we'll find out in the next couple of days how he's going, good or bad. All they can do is give him antibiotics and check out what damage he's done. Anthony's a very fit boy and lives well so hopefully everything comes good," Mundine Sr. said.

According to Mundine Sr., his son was in a very good position to fight the winner of the upcoming Nov. 3 bout between unbeaten super middleweight champions Joe Calzaghe and Mikkel Kessler.
