Anthony Mundine (30-3, 22KOs) made a return to the ring after a serious eye injury, stopping overmatched Jose Alberto Clavero to retain his WBA "regular" super middleweight title in Sydney.
It only took Mundine four rounds to dispatch of Clavero, who's been winless for almost two-years. The fight was all Mundine from the first round. Clavero was not fast or strong enough to compete with the champion. In the third, Mundine opened a serious cut above the left eye of Clavero and then dropped him late in the fourth to force the stoppage.
Mundine wants to face Mikkel Kessler, Joe Calzaghe or Danny Green in 2008.
"This was probably my most nervous fight since I started boxing," Mundine told AFP. "People don't know what I've been through. I've been a long time out of the ring, six months, with a horrific eye injury. I felt pretty good, a bit rusty but that's expected."
