Anthony Joshua has been released from hospital in Nigeria following a fatal car crash that took the lives of two of his friends.
Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele were killed after the black Lexus they were in collided with a truck on the side of the road.
Joshua was discharged from hospital on New Year’s Eve and a statement – prepared by the authorities in the Lagos and Ogun states – said the former two-time heavyweight champion, 36, was recovering at his home in the country.
Joshua visited the funeral home where his friends were taken to on Wednesday and they are due to be flown back to the UK.
The statement, posted on X, read: “Anthony Joshua was discharged from hospital late this afternoon though heavy hearted and full of emotions over the loss of his two close friends he was deemed fit (enough) to recuperate from home.”
Joshua was born in Watford and his parents are Nigerian. Police said he survived the crash – which happened on the Lagos-Ibadan highway Expressway near Sagamu – with “minor injuries.”
