Manchester's Anthony Crolla has revealed that he has been given the all-clear to box again.
The 28-year-old was injured in December after foiling a burglary attempt at his neighbour’s house. The lightweight contender suffered a fractured skull and broken ankle after one of the would-be thieves hit him over the head with a concrete slab following a foot chase.
Crolla, 29-4-2 (11) fighter had to withdraw from a world title challenge to WBA holder Richar Abril due to his injuries—there were fears he would never box again. Crolla dispelled these concerns by using Twitter to inform his fans that he has been cleared to box by John Leach, his neurosurgeon, and can reapply for his licence—although the BBBoC will make the final decision.
‘Like to say a huge thank u to @mrjohnleach who's one of the top neurosurgeons who has reviewed my brain scans today and I'm made up that there's no permanent damage from December and I'll be fine to box on. Thanks also to @mike_hayton for putting me in touch with @mrjohnleach,’ tweeted the former British lightweight champion.
