Filipino welterweight Melgazar Tata Regatuna has been knocked out in the very first round by hard-punching Japanese youngster Masato Arai in a fight card in Koga , Japan.
Well known Japanese matchmaker, boxing manager and journalist Joe Koizumi informed Viva Sports/Manila Standard that the up-and-coming Arai connected with a wicked southpaw uppercut on the chin of Ragatuna to score a quick stoppage.
The time was 1:59 of the opening session of a scheduled eight rounder. With his win, Arai improved to 9-2 with 7 knockouts while Regatuna, according to Koizumi, dropped to 18-26-1 with 15 KO’s.
The 20 year old Arai was coming off a fifth round knockout loss to countryman Ryusuke Yohda last August 31.
