Junior middleweight contender Alfredo "El Perro" Angulo paid a visit to a recent edition of The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com's official audio show. Angulo was released about two weeks ago from the ICE Detention Center in El Centro, Calif. The Mexican fighter said the time away from the sport gave him a chance to rest and expects to be better than ever when he returns to the ring.

"My body got a chance to rest. I think the seven months away may do my body good. With my other promoter I was inactive for a year and when I went back into the ring I felt good," Angulo explained.

If it were up to the Mexicali, Mexico native his return would come sooner rather than later. However his strength and condition coach said that he needs at least two months to get Angulo in fighting shape.

"I told Golden Boy that I want to fight now but Darryl Hudson said that I need a minimum of 8 to 10 weeks. If it was up to me I would fight tomorrow," Angulo told The Boxing Lab.

Between Angulo's April 2010 11th round TKO victory over Joel Julio and his 6th round TKO loss to James Kirkland in November 2011, El Perro was in the ring for a total of 2 rounds while picking up first round knockout victories over Joachim Alcine and Joe Gomez. Angulo insists that the inactivity didn't contribute to his loss to Kirkland and doesn't think he needs too spend too much time on tune-up fights before he's ready to get back in the mix for big fights.

"I always prepare for how every many rounds the fight calls for. If it ends early that's better for me but I am ready for the whole fight. Even when I'm not at my best I showed that.  Even in the (Kermit) Cintron fight I showed that.  I don't think it will take long to be ready fore the big fights," Angulo concluded.
