A fight that had been staged to get Angel Fierro back on track might have derailed his career altogether.
The Mexican junior welterweight, who fights out of Lakeside, California and is ranked No. 12 by the WBC, had lost two of his last three bouts – including a 10-round decision to Isaac Cruz in February – and was matched with 15-6-2 (8 KOs) Abraham Cordero last night in Tijuana, Mexico, at the Municipal Auditorium.
Fierro boasted a 23-3-2 (18 KOs) record going in, but the 27-year-old Fierro was disqualified when he astonishingly kicked Cordero.
Tempers flared between the fighters and Fierro lashed out, kicking Cordero with his right leg.
Cordero had been doing well until the flashpoint in the third round and a while after the fighters were separated. Cordero went to the floor in pain from the kick to his groin area. He was tended to by his corner but the fight was over and Cordero remained on his back for some time before the verdict was announced.
Fierro had earlier tried to land a right hand after the referee tried to break them, and as the official attempted to intervene the fighters clashed and the kick was delivered.
Mayhem ensued with members from both teams entering the ring and security had to split the fighters.
With Fierro back in his corner, Cordero went down and he was later awarded victory by disqualification.

I think he should be punished for his poor performance and for disrespecting the people who pay a ticket to be at the event.
