Top Rank had been doing their best to keep heavyweight prospect Andy Ruiz (26-0, 17 KO's) as active as possible in recent months after going through a significant weight loss in 2015.
'The Destroyer' fought on September 26th, defeating Joell Godfrey over eight rounds and then on October 24th when he out-pointed Raphael Zumbrano Love in eight. He was scheduled to go against this past weekend in Fresno, California but that fight was nixed.
Brad Goodman, matchmaker for Top Rank explained,"Michael Grant just didn't meet the medical requirements."
Moving forward, Goodman told Boxingscene.com,"There was talk of maybe bringing him over to the show in Tuscon(Arizona) on Saturday but it looks like he's going to fight on the UniMas show on January 16th in Dallas, Texas."
After struggling against Sergei Liakhovich last December at a rather rotund 267.75 pounds, in his last two outings he's tipped the scales at 247.75 and 248 pounds.
