According to veteran scribe George Kimball, there is some discussion about matching middleweight prospect Andy Lee (16-1, 13KOs) against Walid Smichet (19-5-3, 14KOs) on March 16 at the theatre in Madison Square Garden.
Smichet came close to stopping John Duddy last February in what was booked to be a tuneup on route to a bout between Duddy and middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik. Duddy was able to win by way of a majority decision, but he sustained cuts that were so severe during the fight that he was unable to go forward with the Pavlik shot.
Lee has been trying to rebuild his reputation since the upset knockout loss to Brian Vera from last March. He returned four months later to stop veteran Willie Gibbs in ten.
