Sources have advised BoxingScene.com that middleweight contender Andy Lee (24-1, 18KOs) is possibly going to sign a promotional agreement with Lou DiBella. As previously reported, Lee will collide with unbeaten Scottish boxer Craig McEwen (19-0, 10KOs) in an HBO televised co-feature on March 12 at the Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. One of DiBella’s star boxers, Sergio Martinez, faces Sergei Dzinziruk in the HBO televised main event.
DiBella would not confirm, or deny, the information.
"It's premature to say anything, but you can say that I've always been an Andy Lee fan. He's still young and a good prospect and I think too many people focus on his one loss," DiBella said.
On a side note: Lee is trained by Emanuel Steward, but the star trainer will not be working Lee's corner for the fight with McEwen. Steward also trains Puerto Rican superstar Miguel Cotto, who on the same night defends the WBA 154-pound title against Ricardo Mayorga at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Steward, by phone, will be advising Lee's corner from Las Vegas. Lee is planning to join Steward and Cotto in a joint training camp in Florida. McEwen is trained by Freddie Roach.
