Heavyweight contender Andrew Golota, 41, knows the end of his career is now here. Saturday night in Lodz, Poland, Golota was dominated and beaten down for five rounds by fellow-Pole Tomasz Adamek, a fighter who only two years ago was competing at light heavyweight. Golota was knocked down in the first, cut and bloody by the fourth, and then dropped and stopped in the fifth. No longer the same fighter who badly beat up Riddick Bowe in 1996.
Golota (41-8, 33KOs) appeared too slow and his punches couldn't hurt or back Adamek off long enough to get anything going. He drops his second loss in a row, and the fourth defeat in his last seven fights. Golota said that his left hand and left elbow have been causing problems for him and he will probably need some surgery. He apologized to his fans for the performance against Adamek and said that it might be time to move on.
“Maybe boxing is no longer my thing,” Golota said.
