Auditorio Jose Maria Arteaga, Queretaro, Mexico - WBC Silver super bantamweight champion Andres “Jaguar” Gutierrez (30-0-1, 22 KOs) dominated for the better part of twelve rounds to easily retain his title on the judges' scorecards with a unanimous decision victory over Mario “Huracan” Macias (26-13, 13 KOs). The scores were 118-109, 116-111 and 117-110. Gutierrez, promoted by Canelo Promotions of Mexico, is the top rated contender to the full WBC championship currently held by another Mexican fighter, undefeated Leo Santa Cruz.

Gutierrez did visit the canvas for the first time in his career in the third round after getting caught with a big uppercut, but never allowed the challenger to get off any further.
