Mayweather Promotions’ super featherweight prospect Andres Cortes (10-0) is pumped for his fight this Friday night against Jamal Dyer (9-1). The bout is scheduled for 8 rounds and will open up a ShoBox triple header that takes place at Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling in Las Vegas.
The 21-year-old Cortes spoke to BoxingScene.com last week and said that he plans on putting together a spectacular performance.
"Everything has been perfect. I have never had so long to get ready for a fight. These past two months I have really been putting everything into this fight. I am ready and have been ready. I am just counting down the days now," said Cortes.
"I have known about this show for about two months now. I just got my opponent about a month ago. As soon as I got my opponent it made me go even harder in the gym. Like I said I feel more ready. I have never been in this kind of shape and I am ready to put on a great performance."
Cortes is a Las Vegas native and has fought at Sam’s Town on several occasions. Sam’s Town Live is a cozy venue where the fans are right on top of the action. He usually has a sizable contingent of fans in the building and said that they provide extra motivation.
"I was born and raised in Vegas and Sam's Town is like 5 minutes from where I grew up and I see it every day. I drive by it everyday. Just that extra motivation you get from people screaming your name. It is just like a rush and you feel kind of unstoppable. It definitely helps a little bit," Cortes revealed.
As for his opponent, Cortes doesn’t seem overly impressed. He believes that his skills are far superior and doesn’t expect the fight to go all 8 rounds.
"I have seen some film. He is a solid fighter but a pretty basic fighter - just strong. He started boxing late so he lacks a lot of experience and makes a lot of mistakes and I think I will be able to capitalize on them and I am expecting to knock him out," Cortes told BoxingScene.com.
