Goossen Tutor must have a lot of confidence in super middleweight Andre Ward (13-0, 8 KOs). Dan Goossen has been talking with Warriors Boxing about possibly matching Ward against heavy-hitter Edison Miranda (28-2, 24 KOs) in 2008. HBO has interest in picking up the fight.
Ward, a 2004 Olympic gold medal winner, is regarded as one of the best prospects in boxing. His promoters believe that 2008 is the year to put his abilities to the test. Miranda makes his super middleweight debut next week and Ward returns on November 16 on ShoBox. Both need to win before serious negotiations can begin
Goossen told boxing scribe Dan Rafael that Miranda can be the defining fight that Ward needs to establish himself as a star.
"We've been talking," Goossen said “Andre has a big fight coming up Nov. 16 against an undefeated kid, so right now, it's a lot of talk. Nothing is set in stone yet. Let us get by Nov. 16. But Andre can't become the star we believe he can be without having that defining fight, and Miranda would obviously be that defining fight."
