Former Super Six participant Andre "The Matrix" Dirrell (19-1) appeared on the most recent edition of BoxingScene.com's official audio show, "The Boxing Lab," and spoke at length in one of the few interviews he has granted since defeating Arthur Abraham in March of 2010. Dirrell, who has been out of action since that fight, said that he is looking to return to the ring in December.
Dirrell suffered "neurological problems' after being punched by Abraham when he was down on one knee in the eleventh round of their fight. Abraham was disqualified for the illegal blow. Dirrell revealed that he was cleared to return to the ring several months ago but has been waiting on a television date from Showtime for his ring return.
"I was cleared to fight about 5 months ago. I have been in the gym working. It has just been a matter of when a TV date was available."
The Michigan native has been in Las Vegas with his brother Anthony as the both prepare for their next fights. He revealed that his next fight will be a tune up and that he will evaluate where he is at after that fight in regards to what type of opponent he will look for next.
"My next fight will definitely be a tune up. It has been over a year and a half since I last fought. I will see where I am at after that fight (answering a question asking if he would look for a title shot after the tune up fight). If I feel like I am ready then I will go for it (a title shot)," said Dirrell.
